Frequently Asked Questions from our Dental Implant patients
Why choose dental implants over other tooth replacement options?
- Dental implants provide a more permanent and natural solution compared to alternatives like dentures or bridges. They offer better stability, functionality, and aesthetic appeal.
How do I know if I am a suitable candidate for dental implants?
- A comprehensive dental examination and imaging are conducted to assess bone density and overall oral health. Generally, good candidates have healthy gums, adequate bone structure, and are in good overall health.
Does the dental implant procedure involve pain?
- The procedure is performed under local anesthesia to ensure you are comfortable and pain-free. After the surgery, mild discomfort can be managed with prescribed medications.
How long does the dental implant process take?
- The timeline varies, but it typically involves multiple stages: evaluation, implant placement, healing period, and attachment of the replacement tooth. On average, the entire process can take a few months.
Are dental implants long-lasting?
- With proper care and maintenance, dental implants can last a lifetime. Regular dental check-ups, good oral hygiene, and avoiding habits like smoking contribute to their longevity.
How do I maintain oral hygiene with dental implants?
- Proper oral hygiene is crucial for implant success. Brushing, flossing, and regular dental check-ups are essential. Dr. Lizette Barzaga will provide specific care instructions tailored to your situation.
Can smokers get dental implants?
- While smoking can increase the risk of complications and hinder the healing process, individuals who smoke can still be eligible for dental implants. However, quitting smoking is highly recommended to enhance the chances of success.
